Rede Jovem Program is an initiative that has the mission to strengthen the low income youth from Brasil and stimulate their social and civic participation by providing access to new information and communication technologies (ICTs).
Conceived by irreplaceable Ruth Cardoso, as part of Comunidade Solidária´s programs, Rede Jovem started to act on 2000 implementing and managing Communitarian IT centers in partnership with local community based organizations. Rede Jovem developed a methodology for managing communitarian IT Centers that considerate youth as a great allied for ensuring the use of technology for dealing with social issues.
After the recognition of the well succeeded methodology, Rede Jovem Program in 2003 entered new stage offering its management methodology to big and consolidated organizations – such as Rio de Janeiro City Hall and SESC Rio – interested on transforming the free spaces for internet access also into places for social interaction, expression, entertainment, engagement and participation.
In connection with de advance of new technologies and Brazilian social context, in 2006 Rede Jovem started to create and execute specific and original projects that gather technology and opportunities for empowering youth searching for innovative solutions for specific social demands in different places.
Currently Rede Jovem Program act in two main directions:
1) Offering and transferring methodologies and livening up community based IT Centers by transforming these structures into spaces for interaction, internet access and mostly into environments for thinking collective solutions and constructions for social issues.
2) Creating projects and web tools for communitarian development and towards promoting youth’s social participation.

Rede Jovem www.redejovem.org.br works as a point of convergence of all audience beneficiated and that participates on Rede´ activities and IT Centers as also offers expression opportunity, by working collaboratively like proposed by the website and its tools.
